Sticky Note: December Abroad

Happy New Year! After a December hiatus full of marking, traveling, and recuperating, we're back! Today's post comes from Sticky Note - an update on her December abroad.

Living in a resort-town community, it is very easy to get all caught up in resort-town living - obviously. Even though I am in Malaysia, I have access to almost anything from Canada, aside from Dill Pickle chips… I have yet to see those appear in grocery stores. Although this may seem nice (and most of the time it is!), sometimes, it can feel artificial.

I am SO lucky to be living in a place with such affordable travel. A few weeks ago, I flew to Borneo (a large island in South East Asia that belongs partially to Malaysia, and partially to Indonesia). This island is a tropical rainforest, home to a very diverse group of animals and plants, and the biologist inside me was absolutely BURSTING with joy. Here are some treasures I saw...

Orangutans at a Wild Life Rehabilitation Centre (these guys were essentially living in the wild, but provided with a daily feeding time in case they couldn’t find food in the vicinity).
