Flash Drive - Ecuador

Education:  B.F.A. at Concordia University, B.Ed at Queen's University

Year Teaching: 2

Subject and Grade: Technology and design. Grade 7-10

My travel experience: Moderate, I have been a few places here and there, Parts of Europe, France, Switzerland, England and Wales, Central America, Honduras and Costa Rica

I decided to teach in Quito, Ecuador because who wouldn’t want to teach in the highest official capital city in the world? Also because the school where I am teaching is the perfect place to start out my career as a teacher.

My biggest fear about moving abroad was finding a place to live and getting lost in the city.

This year, I am most excited about: Teaching more interdisciplinary units in the MYP and being about to co teach more with my colleagues so that my students can better connect to subjects and find a passion for what they enjoy in learning.

5 must have items I packed in my suitcase:
1. Passport
2. A Jacket, although Quito is pretty much on the equator it is still in the Andes so it can get quite chilly, much like a Canadian Spring.
3. Sunscreen (it is pretty expensive here)
4. Camera
5. Sketchbook

Famous, must-eat delicacies from Ecuador: Cuy which translates to Guinea Pig popular in regions such as Cuenca and Loja

Most excited to explore: Old Town, Quito has one of the worlds most preserved historic centers in the Americas

One word to sum up your first year teaching: Hard

Professional Goal This Year: To be more organized than I already am and to look more closely at all my emails that I am sent throughout the day so I can know exactly what is going on. This should be less of a struggle as my Spanish has improved greatly.
